Key buzzwords of 2021, but what do they really mean? And what impact will they have on the property industry?
The purpose of this podcast is to explore these topics.
Why Make This Podcast?
A Lack of Useful Beginners Resources
As we started to try and understand blockchain, web 3.0, cryptocurrencies etc. we couldn’t find many resources that gave easy and yet useful explanations. Most sources were either too basic or far too advanced.
A Lack of Unbiased Resources
Blockchain is most used (at the moment) for cryptocurrencies. And therefore, most people speaking about blockchain are owners of crypto and, consciously or not, have a vested interest in encouraging people to buy, rather than simply understand.
Little on Property & Blockchain
Again we could not find many resources investigating the potential for the property industry and blockchain beyond recording land registries on a blockchain.
Ultimately we want to know, what is blockchain and is it going to disrupt our industry? If we don’t adapt our buildings and businesses today, are we missing opportunities?
And of course, teaching is learning. We are not blockchain experts and so by explaining it to ourselves and others, we hope to learn.
Here is a short introduction and in our subsequent episodes, we will dive more deeply into topics such as:
- Blockchain – what is it? why? how does it work?
- Cryptocurrencies – how are they different to blockchain?
- Mining – can I do it? what are the physcial & environmental impacts?
- Moral dilemmas – blockchain’s potential benefits vs its drawbacks
- Property – what are practical uses of blockchain within the property industry? Do we need to adapt our buildings & businesses today?
